Cuttings & Growing
How do I root a cutting?
Place the cut end in dry soil or cactus mix (don't water for 1–2 weeks to allow callusing). Keep in bright indirect light. Roots typically develop within 2–6 weeks.
When will my cutting produce fruit?
Dragon fruit plants typically produce fruit within 1–3 years from a cutting, depending on variety, growing conditions, and climate.
Can I grow dragon fruit indoors?
Yes! Dragon fruit can be grown in large containers indoors with a grow light. They need 6–8 hours of bright light daily.
Does dragon fruit grow anywhere?
Dragon fruit is a tropical/subtropical cactus that thrives in USDA zones 10–11. They cannot survive freezing temperatures. If you live in a cooler climate, you can grow them in a greenhouse or indoors with adequate lighting. They do best in temperatures between 65–85°F and need protection from frost.
Do I need multiple plants to get fruit?
Some varieties are self-fertile, while others require cross-pollination. We note pollination requirements on each product listing.
How big are your cuttings?
We sell two sizes: Small (under 26") and Large (26"–38"). Our large cuttings are between 1.5 and 3 feet long and are ideal for growers looking for a head start — they root faster and produce fruit sooner.
